Scoop ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to improve the shape, position or proportion of the ears and provide an aesthetic appearance. In the structure of the ears, the problem of buccal ears, which are present at birth or become evident, can be corrected by otoplasty. This application can also be used to correct ears that do not have an aesthetic appearance caused by injury. Scoop ear surgery provides symmetry to the ears and face with an aesthetic proportion while creating a more natural appearance.Correction of even small deformations can provide great benefits to the person’s appearance and self-confidence.
What Should Be Done Before Otoplasty (Scoop Ear Surgery)?
There are some considerations that need to be considered, like other surgeries, before otoplasty. Aspirin and its derivatives, which are blood thinners, should not be consumed before administration. In addition, smoking and alcohol should be left at least 2 weeks before the otoplasty. Any previous discomfort should be explained to the doctor.
How To Make Otoplasty?
Any otoplasty is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. The type of anesthesia will depend on the person’s preference and the corrective advice the doctor needs. The doctor makes an incision behind the ears to reduce the enlarged cartilage and to form a folding shape to be placed on the edge of the ear, and if any incision is required in the anterior part of the ears, it places them in the curves of the ear so that they cannot be seen. The sutures are then threaded through the ear to insert the reshaped cartilage into place and provide ear-face symmetry. Finally, the small incisions are sewn with aesthetic external seams.
What Should Be Done After Otoplasty?
After otoplasty, ear bandage is applied to protect the ears of the patient for 1-2 days. Hair should not be washed while bandages are wrapped around the ears. When the bandages in the ears are removed after sleeping, a flexible and loose but supportive headband is worn over the ears. This band will help relieve tension in the ears. If the patient moves during sleep, the headband should be slightly loosened to prevent damage to the ears.Heavy exercises should be avoided for 2-3 weeks after application. Direct physical contact sports such as judo, karate, basketball or football should be avoided for at least 2-3 months. Drowsiness may persist for 1-2 weeks after administration, and there may be mild bruises and pain for 1-2 weeks.
